I figure I have to start somewhere, so I am. This shall be my first ever blog.
I think a good starting point would be to explain where I am at in my degree. About 3 weeks ago myself and the rest of my year group concluded our previous module with 3 stress-filled assessments. Having been the guinea pigs for this new module, there was no expectation of how manic these could be! And of course we all organised our time in the usual creative way... all important and final work was done within the last 2 or 3 weeks before the deadline, resulting in a group of slightly insane and overtired students with very little social life in the real world. In theory we should learn from this and plan our time much more efficiently in future, however I think it is much more likely that we will be the same stressed-out group (all wired up on caffeine and sugar, naturally) come the next assessment. I think this form of organisation may actually be programmed into a creative mind.
We have now begun our next project, which is entirely self-directed. I find this is has good points and bad points; it is such a broad brief it can be very difficult to choose one theme and not get distracted by other routes on which we could travel. On the other hand, it is a great opportunity to explore ideas and techniques that may have previously cropped up at an inconvenient time. I have chosen to study birds as this is a theme I have explored several times before prior to my degree, so would like to take it into glass. More specifically, I plan to look at birds with vibrant and flamboyant tail feathers such as peacocks. Look out for future blogs for updates on how well this is going!
